Blockhain Porn

Don’t say you don’t do it, according to CTO Vision, porn sites bring “more visitors each month than Amazon, Netflix, and Twitter combined”. Porn has always had such a huge demand, people have been finding ways to watch it (via ASCII) before streaming video capabilities were even available. Today, roughly 30% of internet content is porn.

In this review, I will focus on application of blockchain in porn.

Other sex related projects worth noting are:

  • a blockchain startup SexService.io that attempts to change the game by facilitating safe hookups on the blockchain.
  • LA-based strip joint, Legends Room LV, calls itself the “the world’s only #Bitcoin night club in #Vegas”, paying in digital assets like bitcoin or the clubs native currency the LGD is apparently very popular with patrons. By scanning temporary QR code tattoos located on the dancer’s bodies, you can pay for any their services.
  • Various porn stars who promise all naughty tricks in exchange of bitcoins and ethereum, the clever once tend to favour Monero and Zcash, for obvious reasons, they are minted to be untraceable.

But all big boys on the block opened up to cryptos in 2018. In March, entertainment sites such as Pornhub and VRPorn have leaped to the opportunity to sell their services with cryptocurrency as a payment option.

Playboy TV made the announcement that it would accept Vice Industry Tokens (VIT), more on them below.

Soon after Pornhub Vice President Corey Price announced that the site would be accepting Verge as payment for both its premium services as well as its available purchases

Following the news that Pornhub had initiated a relationship with cryptocurrency, it seemed as though VRPorn wanted in on the action too. In June, the virtual reality adult entertainer announced that Litecoin would be accepted as a method of payment.

Recently, in April 2019, adult entertainment company CamSoda has integrated cryptocurrency payments, enabling users to purchase tokens on the platform using seven different coins, including Bitcoin and Ethereum. In addition to BTC and ETH, CamSoda users can also spend their Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, and Tron alongside privacy-oriented coins Monero and Zcash.

In August 2018, porn website Tube8 has revealed plans to create a blockchain-based platform for users to earn crypto tokens as they watch and interact with Tube8 videos.

The adult entertainment streaming site and subsidiary of Pornhub announced a partnership with Vice Industry Token (VIT), which will develop a tokenize platform for Tube8’s 10 million users and 150 million monthly website visits.

The new system will reportedly be implemented by the end of the year. Tube8, partnering with VIT, hoped to create an entirely tokenized platform. The network would allow customers to watch and interact with Tube8 videos all the while earning the VIT tokens.

Vice Industry Token Inc, the issuer of VIT tokens, is yet another variation on the blockchain porn entertainment idea, and it too raised a boatload of cash, something like $20mil worth of ether in about a day. It’s Vice Industry Token (VIT) “can be used to create a resilient global utility token economy in which goods and services can be earned and traded internationally without any barriers whatsoever,” its website boasts. Basically, the platform allows seamless direct payments to performers and even tipping.

In VIT’s system, content is produced and tagged by a blockchain-enabled platform, and curated by channel owners. Consumers view this content for free, in exchange for engaging with it in specific ways — for example, commenting, upvoting, or simply viewing a video for a set period of time.

These engagements generate VIT tokens, which are used as payment for participation. VIT can be exchanged within the system for goods and experiences such as partner magazines and subscriptions, adult toys and lubes, premium adult content, private cam sessions with cam models, videos and physical DVDs, collectible VR and crypto porn stars, admittance to virtual playrooms and more,  and eventually the tokens will trade based on supply and demand and will be able to be turned into cash via an exchange.

VIT tokens are also employed by Spankchain. The idea is to end embarrassing credit card charges for late night indulgences while an in-the-flesh partner is unavailable, for example. Spankchain is essentially a micropayment processor.

Built on Ethereum, SpankChain says “our smart contracts allow us to eliminate third-party intermediaries and unfair payment practices while providing more powerful privacy and security”.

There are several startups that follow VIT ecosystem, FAPcoin, OKOIN. They aim to do more than just conceal transactions: they are attempting to revolutionize this industry.

My story on blockchain in porn would not be complete without a recent apocalyptic legal svare, when in March 2018 we all cot scared of news that child porn as found on bitcoin blockchain. Technically, it makes us, bitcoin owners, co-owners of child porn on our computers, and it is a serious offence. The story was later disregarded due to no traces of child porn found, but the question remains open: who owns blockchain-based content? Porn industry is eager to know the answer
